Justice Modibo Sacko, the new president of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR), faces mounting challenges, particularly regarding the enforcement of the continental court’s judgments.

Justice Sacko served as vice-president of the court from July 2023 until this week, when he stepped into the shoes of Tanzanian judge Imani Daud Aboud, who completed her four-year term as president.
