Prices of daily groceries have surged in Ethiopia due to higher transport costs linked to conflict in the Middle East, as Orthodox Christians prepare to celebrate Easter on Sunday.

Ethiopia follows the Eastern Orthodox calendar, distinct from the Gregorian system. Easter comes after a 55-day fast from animal products, and is marked by feasting, including the slaughter of sheep, goats or oxen depending on household means.
