Explainer: What it takes to practise law in EAC countries

Recent experiences of lawyers being barred from practising in East African Community (EAC) partner states have sparked debate as to who qualifies to practise law in the region.

Ideally, advocates should be able to practise law across the EAC in accordance with the EAC Treaty. However, according to Donald Deya, CEO of the Pan African Lawyers Union (Palu), each country has different criteria and requirements.
