The East African Community will soon start inflicting severe punishments on member countries that flout the provisions of the Customs Union Protocol or fail to implement Council of Ministers’ decisions on time.
In one of its most far-reaching recommendations, a new report wants the EAC Secretariat to consider instituting punitive measures such as penalties, sanctions or compensations to make partner states adhere to rules governing the implementation of the four-and-half year-old Customs Union.
