The Democratic Republic of Congo has signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates, deepening Kinshasa’s push to formalise trade ties with partners seen as pivotal in curbing the flow of conflict minerals.

The agreement, Congo’s most ambitious trade deal to date, was signed on Monday in Abu Dhabi at the Qasr Al Watan presidential palace in the presence of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Congolese counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi.
