Comesa Court of Justice has suspended the appointment of new judges elected in November 2024 pending the determination of an application by an aggrieved applicant.
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) Secretariat and the Council of Ministers want an injunction blocking the swearing-in of judges of the regional court dismissed, arguing that the freeze had stalled the operations of the court.
In submissions filed before the First Instance Division of the Comesa Court of Justice, the Secretariat said the injunction obtained by Ethiopian candidate Tewodros Getachew Tulu, had frozen the administrative functioning of the court and the administrative deadlines and pending cases delayed or indefinitely suspended.
