MARTHA KARUA (KENYA)
A force to be reckoned with, Martha Karua is Member of Parliament for Gichugu Constituency and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She was Minister of Justice until resigning from that position in April 2009. Karua has become a powerful figure in Kenyan society and has maintained this role through her use of social media. She has a self-run Facebook page that over 110,000 people ‘like’, and just one post from her can generate up to 800 comments. Karua is also the Kenyan queen of Twitter. She has over 8,000 followers. She doesn’t just post her views and thoughts but is also highly interactive with those who contact her.
