DR SUSAN MBOYA (KENYA)
‘In the footsteps of my father’ might be the inspirational words that make Dr Susan Mboya a ray of hope for underprivileged girls across the continent.

The founder and president of the Zawadi Africa Education Fund for girls’ education is continuing a family tradition begun by her late father, Tom Mboya, who initiated the famous Airlift America programme that helped sponsor the education of some of Kenya’s most promising young minds, between 1953 and 1963, at universities across the US.

Several beneficiaries of these scholarships went on to become leaders in their chosen careers. Barack Obama, Sr, the father of the current US president, was one of them.

Dr Susan Mboya is dedicated to giving African girls the chance to realise their leadership potential.

The Zawadi Africa Education Fund provides scholarships to academically gifted girls from disadvantaged backgrounds from Africa to pursue higher education in the US.
