African countries, including Kenya, have welcomed the US Senate’s approval of a two-year extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa), a move that would preserve duty-free access to the US market for 32 eligible sub-Saharan African countries until December 2028.
The measure keeps alive a trade scheme that underpins billions of dollars in exports, especially garments, while giving manufacturers more certainty after months of concern over the programme’s future.
