A crackdown on alcoholic beverages in Rwanda has sparked a dispute over regional trade rules after Uganda joined Kenya in challenging restrictions imposed on some of its products, saying the affected brands are certified under East African Community standards.

The dispute comes as Rwanda intensified its campaign against alcoholic products it considers illicit or non-compliant, with authorities suspending dozens of brands, closing factories and investigating officials accused of enabling businesses to operate outside regulatory requirements.
