Tanzania orders online businesses to display tax IDs
The Act also requires residents and non-residents who own digital exchange platforms or facilitate digital asset exchanges to withhold tax at a rate of 3.0 per cent on payments made.
Businesses operating on social media platforms in Tanzania must now display their Tax Registration Number or Tax Compliance Certificate on their profile pages. This is part of the authorities’ efforts to bring the country’s fast-growing digital commerce sector more firmly into the revenue net.
The requirement, effective July 1, 2026, is part of the Ministry of Finance’s plan to widen taxation of the digital economy and boost revenue collection by the Tanzania Revenue Authority.
