Tanzania's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) commercial electric train service was temporarily disrupted on Wednesday following a power outage in the national grid, the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) said.

TRC said in a statement that the recently launched commercial electric train service, which operates between Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Dodoma, was disrupted for almost one and a half hours before resuming normal operations.

The power outage, which occurred at around 10am local time, affected three trains, the statement said. The TRC thanked the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Ltd (Tanesco) for restoring the power supply at 11.30am and allowing the trains to resume.

In its statement, Tanesco said the power outage was caused by a fault in the national grid, which also led to a blackout in several regions. It assured the public that it would continue to provide updates as efforts were made to restore power.Â
