Kenya electricity demand up, fuels more power imports

Electricity demand in Kenya has reached a new high, with peak demand hitting 2,514.28MW by June 29, 2026, an 8.55 percent increase from last year – the highest in five years – a new report shows.

The 2025/2026 Energy and Petroleum Statistics Report by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) says this is the first time the country’s peak demand has exceeded 2,500MW.
