Up to 2.4 million Kenyans have been pushed into poverty since start of the year, largely due to rising cost of living linked to the Gulf conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel, according to the World Bank.
The lender estimates that between 1 million and 2.4 million more Kenyans fell below the poverty line in the past six months as the economic fallout from the Middle East crisis and persistent high living costs squeezed household incomes.
