Oil firm Perenco pushes back as Congo audit raises pollution scrutiny
Perenco oil company technicians operate drilling equipment at one of their facilities on the outskirts of Muanda, on the southwestern part of DR Congo.
Oil firm Perenco has rejected allegations of pollution after a government-commissioned audit identified negative impacts of the company’s activities on local soil and air quality in the Muanda area.
The claims were first raised by Human Rights Watch (HRW) which claim the firm’s oil operations are polluting air, water and soil in western Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
