A surge in traffic from artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots is threatening to slow or restrict human access to Wikipedia, prompting its creators to launch a separate platform for bots to keep the online encyclopedia usable for people.
The Wikimedia Foundation – the charity that runs Wikipedia – reported in April that bot traffic to the site has grown exponentially, straining bandwidth and driving up maintenance costs.
