Tanzania expands marine havens as global high-seas deal nears

Tanzania says it has widened the net of protected areas in its maritime territory, including an additional 1,300 square kilometres of sea off Pemba Island, in an effort to conserve endangered species.

The decision came on Monday as world leaders gathering in Nice for an oceans conservation meeting called for more ratification of a common treaty meant to protect marine species.
