A solitary goal by Colombia's Mina in the 74th minute sent Africa's final hope, Senegal crashing out of the 2018 World Cup Thursday.

The Senegalese, who ended up with the same points and goal aggregate as Japan in Group H, were locked out on account of more yellow cards collected.

The performance in Russia will go down in history as Africa's worst since 1986 in Mexico, when Morocco became the first team from the continent to go beyond the group stages.

Beaten twice

Morocco, who suffered an early elimination in 2018 in Russia, topped their group in Mexico, which also featured England and Poland.

Africa's other representative in Russia were Nigeria, Tunisia and Egypt.

Both Egypt and Morocco finished at the bottom of their respective groups A and B.

Tunisia, already beaten twice, were due to play their final Group G match against Panama later Thursday.
