Fecafoot says it was impossible to complete the 2019/20 season due to Covid-19.
Cameroon has ended its domestic football league over coronavirus pandemic.
The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) announced Tuesday that it was unable to continue with the remaining fixtures of the 2019-2020 Elite One league to prevent further spread of coronavirus.
The decision was reached after an agreement with stakeholders and upon advice from the Health ministry.
Cameroon as at Thursday had recorded 2,954 cases according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The country suspended soccer and other sports-related activities in March following the outbreak of the virus.
The 18-team top tier league was at the time preparing for round 29 before it was suspended.
However, Fecafoot said the current table standings will be considered as final—a decision declaring PWD of Bamenda champions.
PWD of Bamenda—who will represent Cameroon in the Caf Champions League—had 47 points by round 28, one ahead of second-placed Coton Sports who will represent the country in the Confederations Cup.
“This is good news. We have been expecting this (championship) title for 58 years today,” said PWD of Bamenda President Pascal Abunde.
