The Dutch coach who led Nigeria's football team to victory in the 1996 Olympics has been handed a gift promised to him by the government 22 years ago, BBC Pidgin reported.

Jo Bonfrere received the keys to a three-bedroom apartment in the capital, Abuja, from Power, Works and Housing minister Babatunde Raji Fashola.

It fulfils a pledge made to him by the administration of the late military ruler Sani Abacha, who was in power when Nigeria beat Argentina 3-2 in the finals at the 1996 Olympic Games in the US.
