A top Zimbabwean court has struck down some sections of a controversial law that had imposed the death penalty or termination of citizenship for unpatriotic citizens, ruling that the provisions were unconstitutional.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa had in July 2023 signed into law the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, commonly referred to as the Patriotic Act, despite strident opposition from local and international human rights defenders.
