By the time former Zambian president Edgar Lungu died at a South African medical facility on June 5, after a battle with cancer, he was still trying to fashion out a political comeback and was at loggerheads with his successor President Hakainde Hichilema.
Lungu was the sixth president of his country and the only surviving former president. His predecessors either died in office or a few years after retirement, except founding president Kenneth Kaunda who lived to a ripe old age of 97 on June 17, 2021.
