More offer to Luanda and Windhoek travellers
Angolan bus operator Macon has launched a route linking Luanda and Namibian capital Windhoek.
Macon’s commercial coordinator Armando Macedo told reporters in Luanda that 47 seater buses would ferry passengers from Luanda to Windhoek three times a week; on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays.
The Windhoek to Luanda journey would take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Mr Macedo said further.
Mr Armando disclosed that passengers would pay $79 (Kwanzas 24.400) for the Luanda to Windhoek trip, with stopovers at several Angolan cities such as Sumbe, Benguela, Lubango and Ondjiva.
Illegal crossings
Macon has operated buses in Angola for 17 years, linking the country’s 18 provinces.
Angola shares a 1,100km border with Namibia in the provinces of Cunene, Namibe and Cuando Cubango.
The border is porous and allows easy illegal crossings.
More updates
Angola and Namibia cooperate in several areas including agriculture, transport, fishing, health, energy, education and sports.
The two countries also have defence and security ties.
Mr Macedo alluded to the opening of additional routes to link Angola to DR Congo, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa.
“As for the Luanda-Kinshasa route, the operator will give more updates soon," he said.
