Seventeen people died in Ethiopia Thursday morning following a military plane crash about 75km south-east of Addis Ababa.

The plane had departed from Dire Dawa town in the eastern part, according to the state-run Ethiopian News Agency.

The news agency indicated that the plane crashed at a place called Nannawa area Lumme district near Modjo town, at around 10.30am local time and burst into flames, killing all the 17 people aboard.

The causalities

Police commander Aschalew Alemu was quoted disclosing that two women and two children were among the causalities.

The remains of all the causalities were later taken away by two military choppers, according Mr Aschalew.

Authorities said they were investigating the cause of the Dash 6 airplane crash.
