Red Cross evacuates 161 as conflict spreads in Tigray

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has evacuated 161 people from conflict-affected Mekelle, Tigray, to Semera in Afar on Monday, it said. This came as tensions heightened in the region and fighting spread.
Clashes erupted after the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) seized regional airports in Mekelle, Axum and Shire, and launched offensives into the neighbouring Afar and Amhara regions.
