Ugandan pharmaceutical company Cipla has started supplying antiretroviral drugs to South Africa.
Cipla Quality Chemicals CEO, Nevin Bradford, says the drug maker is supplying ARVs to the country through an affiliate group, Cipla South Africa.
He, however, declined to reveal the value of the deal saying its "rather confidential".
"Our first supply was in March…the supply was 300,000 packs of triple combination drug TEE (Tenofovir/Emtricitabine/Efavirenz/)," Bradford told The EastAfrican on Friday
He said that under the deal, Cipla will supply drugs until March next year.
In addition, Cipla will also supply a first line ARV drug TLD through its South Africa-based sister company.
The firm has supplied malaria drugs and ARVs to countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Comoros and Cameroon.
