Dr Stella Nyanzi will serve only 9 months as she had already served the other half in remand.
A Ugandan court on Friday sentenced controversial academic Dr Stella Nyanzi to 18 months in prison for cyber-harassment.
Dr Nyanzi, however, will only serve for nine months as she had spent a similar duration in remand.
Buganda road magistrate’s court on Thursday found the former Makerere University lecturer guilty of disturbing the peace of President Yoweri Museveni and his late mother Ms Esteri Kokundeka in a Facebook post.
She was, however, acquitted of offensive communication.
The women rights activist bared her breasts as she was handed the jail sentence via video link from Luzira women’s prison.
Before walking away from the camera, Dr Nyanzi bared her breasts in protest, accusing magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu of not listening to her pleas.
Nyanzi had on Thursday said she would not appear in court if Ms Kamasanyu did not order that the sanitary conditions in the prison be improved.
This is the second time Dr Nyanzi has stripped before a court as a form of protest.
She previously undressed over her alleged administrative mistreatment by the leadership of the Makerere University Institute of Social Research (MISR).
