Implementation of the 2018 South Sudan peace agreement has virtually collapsed unless the international community intervenes to force the political players to act, according to regional body charged with monitoring the settlement process.

The Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC), in its quarterly report after monitoring the activities from April 1 to June 30, noted that the general political and security situation in South Sudan has continued to deteriorate, thereby complicating the process of implementing the peace deal.
