The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (Aussom) for one year until December 31, 2026.

Support for the mandate’s extension was anticipated as various envoys recognised that the AU mission remains vital in sustaining and winning the fight against Al-Shabaab to restore security and stability in the Horn of Africa nation.
