President Samia Suluhu Hassan has left the door open for an external investigation into events surrounding the recent post-election violence in Tanzania, but strongly hinted that any official investigation by outsiders would have to be conducted in tandem with the government's own commission of inquiry.

"I have decided that we should start with our own internal inquiry before foreigners are brought in to do the job for us. Our commission should get things moving so that when the outsiders arrive it can become a joint process," Samia said on Thursday as she set the internal inquiry in motion at Chamwino State House in Dodoma on Thursday.
