President Yoweri Museveni was on Saturday declared the winner of Uganda’s presidential election, securing another term that extends his rule beyond 40 years.
The outcome had been widely anticipated. Museveni led from the start of the tally on Friday, and at 4.06 pm the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, announced the final results from more than 50,000 polling stations.
