Mogadishu Mayor, Eng Abdirahman Omar Osman “Yarisow” has died at a Qatari hospital from injuries sustained during the July 24 suicide bomb attack in his office.
He was seriously wounded when a female suicide bomber detonated a bomb and was airlifted to Qatar for treatment. The spokesman for Somalia’s president said Eng yarisow died Thursday in Qatar.
Prior to being appointed Mogadishu mayor in January 2018, he was the minister for education.
Eng Yarisow has been involved in Somali politics for the last 14 years. He served the Government of Somalia as a senior advisor, minister for twice and spokesperson of the government.
Prior to this he was the Senior Advisor and Spokesperson to the President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Eng Engineer Yarisow graduated from the Somali National University in 1986 with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He further developed his career by undertaking professional courses in Business Administration and Higher Education Certificate on Computer Science in London and he further extended his education in London where he successfully completed a Master’s Degree in Housing Management from the University of Westminster in 2004.
His housing management earned him corporate membership of the United Kingdom (UK) Chartered Institute of Housing in 2006.
Eng Yarisow had 14 years’ experience working in the UK. During his stay, he served the local government in various senior positions at the Housing Department of London Borough of Ealing.
During his time in the UK, Eng Yarisow served as a community leader and School Governor for Schools in London. He was also the brain child behind the biggest Somali Diaspora Conference in Leicester in 2007.
He was also the Chairperson of Somali Concern Group from 2004 to 2008. In 2003 he was part of a group from the Diaspora that attended Somali Conference in Nairobi and managed to reconcile warring faction leaders.
