Kosti Manibe Ngai was more than a distinguished South Sudanese public servant. When he passed away on August 11 in Nairobi, it marked another painful reminder of the diminishing representatives of a generation that once embodied a very different promise for South Sudan.
Kosti belonged to the original SPLM, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, before the privileges of state power and when liberation still carried an ethical purpose, and the movement saw itself as custodian of the aspirations of an oppressed people. He was 79.
