Kiir and Machar: Conjoined twins for political survival and stability

As in Kenya, where President Uhuru Kenyatta's handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga restored calm in the country, the working relationship between President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Dr Riek Machar is critical to South Sudan's survival.
According to a cross-section of leaders, President Kiir and his former deputy Dr Machar must cooperate in order to survive politically. Indeed, the National Dialogue (ND) recommended in November last year that the two should retire with an attractive package for the country to move forward.
