Kenya has rejected calls by opposition and civil society groups for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the country’s political violence crisis, despite Nairobi acknowledging the court’s important role.

The government claims that its internal security agencies and domestic legal frameworks are fully equipped to handle cases of political violence and electoral intimidation, and is rejecting any form of external intervention.
