US Marine Corps Gen Michael Langley last week assumed leadership of the US-Africa Command, signaling a new chapter for Washington’s military mission that oversees defence relationship with most of sub-Saharan Africa. Gen Langley replaces Gen Stephen Townsend who completed his three-year term early this month.
Gen Langley, a former artillery officer and the first black four-star general in Marine Corps history becomes the 6th commander of AFRICOM since its establishment in 2008.
