The Congolese government on Thursday nominated Patrice Lumumba’s daughter to contest the top post of the Francophonie bloc, setting up a high-stakes race against a Rwandan contender.
By putting forward Juliana Lumumba for the position of Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the Democratic Republic of Congo has ensured she will face Rwanda’s former Foreign minister Louise Mushikiwabo, who is seeking a second term.
