Covid-19: Kenya records 72 more cases, nine recoveries

Nine more patients have recovered, while one more death was recorded.

Kenya has registered 72 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to 1,286.

During the Covid-19 briefing at Afya House in the capital Nairobi on Monday, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi said of those who tested positive, 70 are Kenyans. Fifty-two of them were tested in the capital Nairobi.

Nine more patients have recovered patients bringing the total recoveries to 392, while one more death was recorded bringing the total fatalities to 52.

The government has tested a total of 61,971 samples.

Ms Mwangangi added that the country has trained 11,000 healthcare workers and 60,000 community health workers to increase capacity of workers. Kenya has also established isolation and quarantine facilities in all counties, “with a total bed capacity of over 5,000,” the statement from the ministry says.

Ms Mwangangi urged Kenyans to continue adhering to the safety measures, including frequent handwashing, wearing masks in public, keeping social distance and obeying curfew regulations.

She also urged Kenyans to maintain a healthy diet and exercise to improve immunity.
