Uganda’s leading contemporary playwright, Alex Mukulu, has observed that the theatre industry has failed to produce brave stories to match the current political climate, in which the Walk to Work campaign has become synonymous with death, brutal arrests, injuries and tear gas.
“The theatre, which is supposed to boldly follow current events and speak out against injustice, has instead gone into comedy,” said the actor, writer, director and singer.
