The Grammy-winning rapper set was one for the ages.
The 2019 edition of Jameson Connects Kenya went down last Saturday at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
Featuring both local and international acts, the annual hip-hop gig did not disappoint revellers who braced the chilly weather ready to turn up.
First on stage was Bey T, one of Kenya’s fast-rising female rapper at 11pm just shortly after the Manchester derby in which football fanatics got to watch on the giant screen set up at the venue. Coupled with back up dancers, the femcee performed songs off her EP Concept: Vol 1.
Rising star Nviiri the Storyteller was next on stage. Strumming his guitar with his soulful voice, the Pombe Sigara hit maker played among others, Overdose, Extravaganza and his new his new single Fore. Undoubtedly one of the best performances of the night.
Khaligraph Jones set was one for the ages. Sporting disco ball shirt and short and a leopard bucket hat, the self-appointed rap king delivered thrilling performance with a medley of hits.
Nigerian-based band Alternate Sound lit up the stage with renditions of hits from early 2000s to date.
On the decks were Dj Redbone, Jo Kisila Dj Hypnotiq, and Ugandan DJ KasBaby who opened the stage for American hip-hop star TI.
Arriving onstage at exactly 2am clad in jungle green raincoat and white hoodie underneath the Grammy-winning rapper greeted the screaming audience with his signature salute before proceeding to deliver a hit-stuffed set.
Singing hits from his catalogue of music, the King of the South performed for 40 minutes before taking his shirt off to show off his abs and donning a black durag.
With his wife Tiny looking on on stage, the 39-year-old Atlanta rapper performed hits such as U Don’t Know Me, ASAP, What you Know, About The Money, Whatever You Like, Live Your Life, We In Da City Remix among others.
However, despite the electrifying performances, the main stage was too high from the ground and the sound quality was a little bit awful.
Also the ticket prices were a bit pricey ($40) for the concert. Despite the other hoopla around the pop concert, it was worth the time and energy.
