On July 9, Kenya and East Africa lost Abubakar Zein Abubakar, a longstanding civic leader, who died in Nairobi after a long illness.
Zein was an author and an outstanding leader in the performing arts scene, who served in critical roles in national and regional policy and political bodies, including as a legislator in the East Africa Legislative Assembly (Eala), and as a member of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC), the official body entrusted with Kenya’s constitutional reform process.
