The sixth edition of the Stara Fashion Week is set for July 24-25 in Dar es Salaam and the theme is eco-friendly fashion.

More than 40 designers from Zanzibar, Arusha, Morogoro, and Dodoma have registered for the event and will showcase their designs at the runway show.

Apart from the runway shows, the event will also feature designer stalls, with products available for purchase, workshops and conferences.

Dubbed Stara Fashion Week, (Stara is Swahili for modesty)  the event will take place at the National Museum, located in the central business district of the country’s commercial hub  Dar es Salaam.

Stara has been running advocacy campaigns each year through fashion and challenging designers to create with a particular issue in mind.

"Banking on the power of fashion to influence, we thought it would be wise to use our platform to create awareness and perhaps start being the change that we want to see,” said Asmah Makau, founder of Stara Fashion.

Asmah says participants will have an opportunity to meet influencers, renowned figures in the modest fashion world while investors will have a chance to connect with new markets.

The organisers also plan to connect trendsetters and models from the modest fashion world and famous icons of modest brands.

“We provide coaching and carrier guidance to models and designers,” Asmah said

The show will also showcase henna art.

Some of the brands and prominent designers set to feature in this year’s fashion show include Asia Idarious, Mustafa Hassanali, Irada Styles, Afrika Sana and many others from Tanzania.

District commissioner of Ilala Sophia Mjema will host the event.

This year's edition is sponsored by Unidots digital solutions, Marashi Zanzibar, Coca Cola Tanzania, Mozen Threading, Stara and Beauty, Sugar Berry Company Ltd, and Pizza Hut Tanzania among other companies.
