Margaret Chacha boasts a near three-decade career in the financial sector, one that has taken her to the United Nations where she was the operations manager of the UNDP. In July 2009, she founded the Tanzania Women’s Bank, the first women-focused bank in the country. TWB has made it easy for women to open a bank account in a country where cumbersome documentation, such as a title deed, is routinely required. The bank aims at promoting activities that empower women economically, although men can also open an account.
