Before they met, made music, raised children, and won awards together, Senegalese–Swedish duo Maher and Sousou Cissoko came from parallel worlds. Today, they are united by one glaring similarity: music.
Last week, they performed under the canopied roof of Beit é Selam restaurant in Westlands as part of their East Africa tour, sponsored by the Swedish Arts Council. Both grew up in families where traditions were passed down like heirlooms, singing and playing instruments from childhood. Yet beyond this shared inheritance, their paths diverged.
