Tanzanian lender CRDB Bank Plc has appointed Abdulmajid Musa Nsekela as the new managing director to succeed Dr Charles Kimei, who is retiring in May next year.

Mr Nsekela started his banking career in 1997 when he joined CRDB as a bank officer. He rose through the ranks to become a senior relationship manager.

He left CRDB for NMB Bank Plc as a senior manager-personal banking in 2008. In 2013 he was promoted to head of personal banking and later, in December 2015, he was appointed head of retail business, a position he has held to-date.

He will now be returning to CRDB as its chief executive. The bank did not say when he is expected to take up the role.

“Mr Nsekela has been responsible for the transformation of the banking in Tanzania. He has spearheaded numerous innovations across the banking industry by contributing to change within the two largest commercial banks in Tanzania,” CRDB said in a statement.

He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration in international banking finance and a post graduate diploma in Business Administration from the University of Birmingham (UK).

He is also an alumnus of the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) with advanced diploma in banking.
