The promised windfall from exploration and development phases of Uganda’s oilfields may have bypassed operators of small tourism businesses in districts that host Uganda’s oil projects worth about $20 billion, who say they have seen little to no benefit from the investments, a new report shows.
Instead, business persons criticise the industry for giving them excitement of opportunity that quickly dissipated into debt and collapse of their hospitality-based enterprises as they deviated from tourism products to oil and gas supply-chain businesses, with dismal returns.
