Digital tokens created in response to trending internet jokes, also known as meme coins, saw their biggest jump yet in 2024, handing investors unprecedented gains, but analysts warn that it may not last.

The total value of the crypto tokens increased 333 percent over the year, from just $22.28 billion at the beginning of the year to $96.7 billion on December 31, beating the rally in the overall crypto industry, which posted a gain of about 93 percent, according to crypto market tracker Coinmarketcap.
