Somalis working abroad remain the backbone of the country and its capital’s economy, providing stability in times of massive aid cuts. New data shows that they are the main drivers of the country’s growing economic performance, thanks to their multibillion-dollar annual remittances.
The Central Bank of Somalia (CBS) reports that remittance inflows from Somali citizens living abroad grew by five per cent to reach a record $6.78 billion in 2025, up from $6.43 billion in 2024.
