Kigali should get used to criticism
Posted Monday, July 26 2010 at 00:00
Rwandan President Paul Kagame must understand that both the Media and the Opposition must perform their duties as watchdogs of society. Which is why they voice the evil they discern in the government.
It is incumbent upon the government of the day to make amends when faced with such criticism or be ready to take a plunge.
Ignoring matters of national concern would lead to social, political, cultural and economic stagnation.
Rwanda, with its unique challenges related mainly to the 1994 genocide, should accept altruism and patriotism as a better way to deal with divergent views.
The government must stop oppressing, intimidating and threatening the maverick politicians and the press. Instead it should facilitate the rule of law, democracy and good governance.
