Bandits kill 30 people in western Nigeria

A bandit attack on Kachiwe community in Niger State, western Nigeria, left 30 people dead on Thursday morning, authorities confirmed.
The attack comes barely 24 hours after three anti-riot policemen were killed and some people abducted by gunmen who stormed the Palace of Emir of Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State on Tuesday.
Mr Ahmed Matane, the Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), confirmed the attack from the state capital Minna, describing it as heinous and barbaric.
He said that the state government was working to bring to an end the lawlessness brought about by the criminals, who were making people’s lives miserable.
Mr Matane appealed to the members of public to provide the security agencies with credible information they may have that would lead to the arrest of criminals.
State Commissioner of Police Monday Kuryas said that investigations into the Thursday attack were ongoing and the perpetrators would be brought to book.

Meanwhile, 28 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters and 18 of their collaborators have been killed by Nigerian military in north east, the epicentre of insurgency.
They were killed in a coordinated ground and aerial strikes by the Nigerian military at Daban Masara in Kukawa Local Government Area of the State, near Lake Chad region.
According to the military reports, Daban Masara has been dominated by ISWAP terrorists and serves as a meeting point where weapons, fuel, food items, motorcycles and other logistics are delivered to the terrorists.
“The public have vacated Daban Masara area and fishing has been banned. It is occupied by the terrorists, their allies and workers in the fishing business.
“Some of the ISWAP fighters at the location were placed on standby, and were only awaiting directive from their leadership to the Nigeria Army troops,” Mr Kuryas.
